From just looking at it you have a flintlock blunderbus. It appears to have been handmade, not machine made like so many replicas I have seen. I would suggest that you take that to an antique firearms dealer and have him check it out. I know that the blunderbus was used in colonial times.

Just my personal opinion in looking at the photos....based on the poor quality of the castings, finish on the wood that looks newer and the carving that just doesn't look right, I would say
Asian reproduction and not a very good one.

I would still check it out though.

Definitely looks like a reproduction. Look at the screws, not bunged up. Definitely not 250-300 yr old. Wood and metal lines not that worn.

Probably produced in India they have made a lot of reproductions for sale to tourists.

Don't know for sure, but for the age it is representing, I think screws were not around then? Should be pins or rivets.Perhaps someone has 'reconditioned' it.

Sorry TOM But i agree with the others. The wood has no age to it, and the screws on the plates would have been flat and slot wider and cruder appearing. And theres no patina to metal or wood. It looks to be part of a gun cabinet display or decorative wall display. But to satisfy your mind, i would have it looked at. Nice piece anyway. HH

looks like a tourist type suvee item to take home -- a repro blunderbuss --- kinda neat looking but doubt its real based on it method of manufactor and its overall condition -- Ivan

i have one exactly like it in my gun safe. my father inlaw left it to me. i had asked him once if it was real because it looked so fake and cheap and he assured me it was real an worth a lot. he said some people think its just an old decoration and throw them away or let thier kids play with them untill they are lost or destroyed
