This time it's a penny. the obverse looks like it barely got struck. You can see the outline of Lincoln's riight shoulder only. The reversis fine and struck good. There is no evidence of any "stretching" or "flattening" so I think this may be a genuine error. Now I just sit and wait for someone to burst my bubble like they did with my rotated die half dollar that turned out to be a trick coin.

Sorry again, but what you've got there is called a "friction penny." It's what happens when someone attaches a penny onto the end of a drill and uses it to polish woodwork.

NOT!!!!

Congrats on a legit error that is either

1) a grease-filled die (gunk covers the die surface and results in a weak strike with portions of the design missing) or

2) a die adjustment strike (a test of the die's striking pressure that can leave just a faint outline of the design if the pressure is set too low).

It's probably #2. Nice find!

Immy, that was funny! You had me going for about three seconds, then I just laughed. I've found a few like that myself Hydrantman. I keep them, but have no clue if there is any added value. HH, Gpurs...

I would go with the grease filled die. I think that if it were a "die trial strike" the weakness would be on both sides.

Actually, its someone's lucky skipping penny. They would toss at any puddle or small water body they could find. Always with the obverse side down. :icon_jokercolor:

Just kidding, of course. Nice find. I had a nickel like that. Probably still around somewhere.

HH.
