Detected for only 45 minutes today at a small park in the middle of the city I live in (very small town) after going to the City building to try to talk to the mayor...
It started really raining hard, thus the short hunt, but kept waving as I briskly walked back to the truck.. About 3 ft from a sitting bench near where I parked, I got on of my favorite signals, VDI of 11 and stating "foil/ring"... I have done my best with this VDI (foil), and so I ALWAYS dig these signals..
It was at a little over six inches down, and man, you just cant miss that gold color! Pulled it out and put it in my pocket, then ran to the truck. After cleaning it at home, I inspected the ring. Marked 10k and I think the makers name, and it looks really old.. Detail is worn off of it as you can tell in the pictures.
Anyone have any idea how old it may be? In the short hunt, found 6 slaw pieces, 12 pull tabs, and 1 quarter, 2 dimes, 1 nickel, and 4 pennies..
I sure hope this lucky streak keeps up, but I took the rings I found yesterday to a local jeweler, and although my electronic tester said the small one was 22k, he tested it in front of me with the stone/acid method, and said it wasnt even gold plated. :-(
I now have my doubts about my electronic testor, and have written to the guy I bought it from with my concerns (marked gold testing negative, unmarked rings testing positive for me, but not at jewelers, etc.) and I hope he makes it right. I ordered an acid testing kit today..

Good find :icon_thumleft: love that gold i had 6 VDI numbers today in a old house yard between 9 and 11 it stated foil and thats what i got foil :laughing7: Good Hunting Jim

'41 but well worn. Perhaps it was handed down and lost later?

My 45 min. park hunt yesterday yeilded 9 pull tabs, 2 slaw chunks, 1 quarter, 1 Lincoln, 1 zincoln (found in the lot).

Want to swap? My slaw chunks are something special.

Nice job.

I about choked on my coffee reading this... LOL...
How on earth do you guys figure out that this is a 1941 class ring???? Amazing... Don't happen to know what school do you? ;D

I like digging up rings, but I REALLY like digging up old ones...

Bottom picture clearly shows the top of a 41. The other side probably has the top of a 19. Many of the "coinheads" here can read a worn date better than they can read their tax returns. It is easy to miss if you are just enjoying the design and decoration of the ring. (Or you have too much adrenaline coursing through you from finding gold)

I usually have a 10 minute limit on my trade offers but since you were choking, I will still honor it.

If you turn that top picture upside down and squint your eyes just right. It looks like a snapping turtle layed out. I can't quite figure out the diagonal part underneath though.
