I've been getting skunk after skunk of half boxes but finally scored my first silver half from a MWR box, a 1966. I'm officially out of skunksville albeit just barely out of it.

I also got another silver dime from a box of dimes.

Nice work zero, you're doing better than I am. I did better yesterday (two clad proofs) eating through someone's dumps that I did today on two fresh boxes (completely skunked, other than a decent grease error.

Thanks...I've been looking for those missing fg's on the 82 and 83 but haven't found anything yet. Congrats on the error coin. Clad proofs are something when the silver is absent. HH

Yeah, I wasn't aware that there was an FG that could be missing on the 82's and 83's. I'll have to add that to the list of things to look for. One issue is that I only check ~25% of the coin I get. The wife checks 25% and the 5 and the 7 year old each check their own coins. The 7 year old never misses anything. The wife is reasonable. The 5 year is sketchy at best, but hey, he's only 5 so what do you want???

Again, nice work.

I'm impressed that you have the whole family working on it. We started out that way (my wife, 8 year old daughter, and 6 year old son) and we hit a jackpot early on (58 silver halves). After the first two skunks, I lost all my family labor. They still listen to my excitement over a buffalo, silver dime, or a 1918 King George, but I think I am on my own for now.

The missing FG's are called grease errors and need to be completely absent to be valuable. I think a raised bump has some value, but just missing the G or the FG being really light are not worth more than face as I understand it.

I am mainly looking for silver but since there are so many skunks it seems like you have to look for something else to keep it interesting. Best of luck!

Thanks for the info on the FG's. The other thing I've been doing is bring home ~$5 worth of pennies a day and letting the kids look for wheats. They have a blast with that too. 7 year old found a '56 today. He reacts to a wheatie like I'd respond to Ben or a Walker.

Sounds like you're having fun with the family as well!

Take care.
