Well at least the head off of one. My wife found this a long time ago(in the 80's). I thought it looked like a turtle head and I showed it to the landowner who happens to be a Northern Paiute who I also went to school with and she told me that in Nevada they had a turtle clan that was part of their tribe. There are no turtles around here, at least not recently, but I know there are some in Nevada. The camp was more recent stuff so a lot of it could be ancestral Paiute who have been here a long time. Anyhoo here it is, wish it were whole.

Pretty neat but I dont have a clue what it was cant even bs that one.

Not for sure what it is either Rock but you don't have to imagine too much to know it is something.

Cool find, and it's at least an obvious effigy compared to most of the threads started with effigy in the title.
Sure is,you don't have to squint, flip it,ponder or anything. It is something. Thanks for reply Joshua.

Pretty cool. Is it clay or carved rock? May not be a turtle, but turtle was a pretty important animal to a lot of tribes. Old Kiowas told me that snapping turtle was the king of the animals.

Not sure, but its definitely been altered by man. I think its Native American, what you said.

It's carved rock of some sort RGINN, there are very little of clay things around here. Thanks for comment.

If I had to guess I'd say Tortoise rather than snapping turtle.
The tally marks are far too obvious and not natural. It definitely looks like a piece of a stone effigy to me.

That is a neat find, I would say turtle and want to ask did they have stone bowls in your area. Just thinking it could have broke off something like that or a pipe.

Thanks Monsterack. Yes we do have stone bowls around here but generally they are plain without fancy adornments. they are usually made of basalt stone too and this is a softer stone. Hard to say what the complete thing would have been, sure would have been cool though. Have never seen a fancy pipe that would have had something like that on it either, around here anyway. That would be very cool. I'll put on a pic of some of my bowls so you can see what they are like.
