Got out for 6 hours to my new favourite back up site...I could hunt this for years and not cover it all. Found the usual stuff and a piece that looks like it could be a trade item. If it were silver I would definitely be calling it trade silver. It's primitively made and appears to be something that was worn...has a loop for a chain or cord...any ideas? Probably just junque but who knows...

That's a looped mount from a 1700's Sword belt Fitting. Great find.

I'll trade you some wheat pennies for your trade item. Very nice and eclectic finds.

Romeo that thing is killer and it's awesome to have a huge site to hunt for years to come. Great find man. That's nice junque

Yes - that's a great find. I believe it's also referred to a fitting for a sword belt hanger. You can see various examples under the Finds Menu for the Colchester website (UK Finds).

Hey Buddy, that's an awesome find. I thought it was a trade item at first as well, kind of looks like a turtle thingy to me.

When I first saw it I thought HB beaver...but since it wasn't silver I knew it was a long shot to being a trade item. I'm pretty damn happy with what it IS though!!

Agreed.

3 of these were 'rivetted' to the scabbard & hung from 3 hooks on the sword belt.

Very interesting finds romeo, looks like you've got a very early site there! :occasion14:

This is interesting, any ideas what it's from? :dontknow:

I'm pretty sure it's just a Victorian sash buckle...it's got a design but it's pretty wrecked...
