Another Dandy button, 1600's and 1800's buttons
Hi all,
I had a great short hunt Sunday morning for a couple hours at the old tree farm. If you remember about a month ago I posted what we decided is a Dandy button. That one was found at this same site about an inch below the surface. Being short on time I decided to slowly hunt the area that produced buttons and coppers in the past.
I hit a nice strong copper tone and got the small basket weave 1800's button in excellent condition with gild still on it.
Not far away and on the surface was the pewter star design button. I believe this composition along with the shank style is 1600's. (please correct me if I'm wrong )
The next hit was on a mound that the farmer plowed up years ago. The grass was very tall and bunchy, kind of hard to detect but an area that I did not hit hard because of the crappy grass and weeds. I got a super crappy tone that sounded mostly iron but a hint of mid-tone like a button. The cross hairs jumped from top left to top right down to nickel. I decided to dig, and dig, and dig. This Dandy wound up a foot deep. It was an inch deeper than my digging tool is long. The Dandy was sitting in the bottom of the hole on a 45 degree angle. I love this button. Each mark on the pattern is hand struck and individual. It looks very similar to the one I found a month ago. I believe these are 1700's as described in my other post about the Dandy button. They may be from the same coat who knows.
And, to end my hunt I stopped at my friends 1780 house where I never found a coin older than 1903 and hit an 1882 Liberty nickel
Anyway thanks for looking 8)
