After the big stir about the statue head I found last week I wanted to try and go find the body of it. Well I didn't find the body but Baldingboy and I did hit a tot lot very near the location, that hadn't been hit in a while and found a few odds and ends and a few coins. I found this indian head pin at 5 inches in the compacted wood chips.

Can anyone help me out with more info? It says 722 on the back and then it has a small circle made by little dots the c for copyright and then 82 on it.

Since Baldingboy has found and indian head ring and an 1898 indian head I have decided to give the pin to him.

Yes that word is permitted, I just really messed up my post title last time, call it a freudian slip if you want and some people really got out of hand with it.

Others took offense when none was intended.

As far as the pope on the slope, nope. We went back lastnight and couldn't find the body and I have yet to get it to the priest who requested to see it. When our schedules work out I will let you know.

I don't know what it is made of as I said the only marks are 722 and then the 82 copyright mark. I did give it to Baldingboy to go with the two other indiands he found on previous hunts. We are waiting for a good rain and then we will go back and try and find the statue body. The only other info I can add is that we did determine that the slope is on the Catholic side of the Cemetery. Oh and I dug an old toy pistol out of the ground at 8 inches near where we found the head, it is all rusty but I will get a picture up later today.
There seems to be a lot of items between 6 and 8 inches in this area.

The dots on the pin may be the artist's mark. 82 may be the number in a series of 722 that were cast? Just an idea.

Another thought, it look's alot like the Indian motorcycle logo.

id guess the desing it made from is copyrighted 1982. maybe item 722 in the companies catalog? looks kinda like plated pewter to me in the picks

My guess would be pewter.

As for the Indian Motorcycle logo I cannot find anything like it in their list of pins. The local college maskot used to be and Indian and one of the local high schools is still the Indian. So I cannot really provide any more info other than that.

Wish someone out there could help shed a little light on the subject.

being the head item was found on downward slope outside the of the the catholic side of the graveyard ---I going with pope leo as the man --- right time frame 1880 to 1903 too ---(the artist were being a bit "nice" by not showing the "nose" as large as it was in "real" life ---its quite a common thing for both painters and sculptors to do this---a bit of "flattery" as they say---helps to sell the work) Ivan

Yes and I want to be really really really really really really clear on one thing. I am not nor have I ever nor do I intend to detect in a graveyard. The park we detect in is just that a public park. People play baseball, basketball, skateboard, have picnics etc here. The main reason we chose the site is because it has history that dates back to the CW. Some people on the forum get really touchy when the word Cemetery is brought up and I can understand why. But I can promise you I have spoken with the Curator of the Cemetery and grounds and he told me where we could and could not detect. He also provided info as to where the old houses used to be. So I will keep you informed of anything further we find when we go back after it has rained.

sorry ---I corrected my post --- what I meant to say was "on the downward type sloping area outside the catholic part of the graveyard" --you have my respect---you do not dig in graveyards and you are attempting to find and return it to its proper spot---I deeply respect that---I myself would do likewise actually---Ivan
