Relic Hunting
Another "whatsit" from a Kentucky Cavalry camp. When I first dug this I saw the rounded end and thought I had a CS tongue. Anyway, it's been attached before, probably to leather and in the round part it has rusted iron so it appears to be a latch for something. Oh, the main part is cast brass. My question is, what was it a latch for? Perhaps something off a saddle? Military related? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks! NOTE:Forgot to mention the green with writing is a painted, written label for history preservation. I do all relics this way and recommend others do the same.

Is that a sticker (with text) on Photo-2?
If so, I highly doubt that computer-printed decal is from the Civil War era.

Anyway, reminds me of an automotive battery connector to me.

Nope, that's green paint and written information on location(not specific coordinates) and date found. Very important to do this with historical artifacts. a pet peeve of mine when people toss relics in one container from many locations and nothing is labeled. Knowing the history of a particular artifact is the most important part of it.
