Looks like horse equipment. Possibly from a bridle. I don't get the feeling it is CW, but I can't prove it either way.
Remember, a good camp spot in the 1860's continued to be a good camp spot for a long time afterwards, and maybe it still is... I always expect post CW relics at a camp area.
Yes, I know you’re right DCMatt, but I hate to write something off until I’m sure what it is. About 40 years ago I hunted a spot where I found several brass pieces I thought were pipe fittings. I threw them all away and later found out they were artillery fuses. [emoji12] when I finally got back to the spot, they were all gone, found by someone else. I bet he’s still laughing about the dummy who threw away a handful of artillery fuses....[emoji16]
I’ve got one of those and I don’t find civil war around here I’d say closer to 1900
