Hey everyone, Haven't been on as much lately. Been busy trying to get into a school to make some money one day.
Forum is slow at times also. Hopeing the new one provides better performance. Got out over the weekend with the weather here in P.a in the low 70's. It was great to be out.
My Dad, Wanted to go out and hunt with me and Lance. I wanted to take him to a old site and show him how my research works.
We met up Saturday mourning. We all hopped in my car and headed for a early cellar hole I worked last month. As we started down the old road we had previous thoughts that another cellar hole was right off the road.
The topo maps I studied said there were 2 homes there. But we never checked because we were to eager to always get to the other site. Well Lance figured he just step right off the road and into the edge of the woods.
As soon as he did he said cellar holes. That's all I gotta hear. In the past I saw faint traces of a few bricks and old post to a fence line in there. Just never checked it out. It had 2 big pines in the front also. That's another great indicator.
The site didn't show up on my map of 1876 though. So it dates past that time. Old but not real old. It was a really neat site with a bunch of different sandstone walls and depressions.
Coins were far few and in between. But this usually happens. I have to take out a ton of hits from 0 to 6 inches. Once that is done I can go back and listen for the deeper hits. This wasn't a large cent and flat button era site though. We did dig alot of old bottles and plates that had dates of 1855 on the bottom of them.
My Dad, had a good time hunting for bottles and it kept me and Lance happy knowing he had something to do. I only found 3 wheat's a really nice 27 buffalo. But the find I liked the most was a handle off a sword or a large dagger/knife.
It's really neat and in pretty good shape. Took a few hrs to clean it. It says Pat April 0 For. On the top of the handle area. I have know idea of it's origin. It was a neat relic though. If any of you know anymore please tell me.
All in all it kept us busy for a weekend. Nothing super to talk about but it was fun just spending time together.
Thanks For looking,
HH Jeremy
