I'm continuing a slow careful search of my "20th Century " ballfield/ park.
The finds have been getting spotty. I've dug the usual assortment of shotgun brass, shell casings, clad and keys.
Today this popped up from 7". Rang 16 in 2 directions on the 800.
Far from being knowledgeable in the button realm I googled and surmised that it is 1850's-1860's.
Still had a bit of gilding.
Any experts have a positive ID?
Thanks and HH 20190915_162328.webp20190915_162342.webp20190915_132740.webp

Sorry to have to say, your button's backmark saying "Scovill Mfg. Co Waterbury" with a large dot at both ends of Scovill Mfg. Co. and no ring of dots or circle around the button's loop is strictly from the 20th Century. The photo attached below shows your button's backmark on a 1917-1923 US Marines button with "black finish."

Also, your button's front shows a "stippled" background surrounding the emblem, so it is not a US Military button.
