Hi all,

Found this button along with an iron buckle and the bronze jar I posted in what is it as well. I'm assuming its a button because I've seen them on here before, but I've also seen things that look like this identified by board members as cufflinks.

Anyway - its copper and flat and has a small attachment protruding from one side. I think this is what's left of a button shank.

An clue as to age of this item. I googled buttons and see items similar to this across a huge range of dates.

Thanks

Looks as if it's a flat, one-piece brass button, probably originally gilt, of the early 1800's.

Unless there's a backmark, dating it more precisely would be difficult.

Thanks PBK. Quickdraw with the ID.

Early 1800's is cool, because I got a map of the area that puts a church and a school house there in 1827.
