The back photo is a little out of focus but it looks like it may be iron or tin and is corroded. I did take the liberty of enhancing a front shot to help with an ID. I hope you don't mind. I am not sure but I think your button is a civilian fashion one. Here is one that is not a match but has the five stars over the branches.

It is a 20th-Century rivet-button, also called a tack-button. Used primarily on heavy-duty "work clothes" such as overalls, and for waist-closure on blue jeans, etc. See the photo below, showing a modern packet of tack-buttons with stars above a wreath.
