This is the forth buckle Ive found this year. I found it about 15 yds. away from a square depression in the ground where I believe a cabin once stood. I found three grave stones in the woods while dirt bike riding. I stopped to read them and saw that the people had died in 1833, 1837, and one was unreadable. I then searched the area and found a small cabin size depression in the ground about 80 yds away from the stones. I had only had a few hits with my MD all being square headed nails except for this buckle. Does anyone know if this style buckle could be from that time period?

Hi undertaker
Your buckle is a harness strap buckle of mid 19th - early 20th century.

Heres a couple of mine, they are common over here.

Nice buckle Undertaker.
That sounds like a very good spot----I would be pounding it hard,

Davesx nailed it.

Harness buckles and other horse-related buckles come in many shapes and sizes. I threw a few together for a photo:

The important thing about them is that they indicate the presence of older items.

Keep up the good work.
