1849 Half Dime at the doctors homestead where I found the Draped Bust dime and Seated dime this week. This tiny silver almost didn't get dug since the reading from my AT Pro was jumping from around 68 to 82 but I figured since this yard is full of square nails I better dig. Its in awesome condition but black as can be. Must be the soil conditions there? Sorry these pictures don't do the coin justice but the "Liberty" is unblemished and only one star has any wear to it at all.

Any coin experts care to hazard a guess on value? And if I ever wanted to get a coin professionally cleaned and graded who would you folks suggest?

One more thing - since I began severely slowing down my swings I have been killing it. I guess I'll be re doing a lot of my properties here in the future. Wow just wow what a difference just slowing down has made......

Thanks for looking and for any recommendations on cleaning etc.

It really does make a huge difference to slow down and be methodical. Anytime I'm in a really good spot I go at a snails pace and really try to hear every little sound. Man you've been on a roll lately bud. Great coin

Btw prob a $30-$50 coin

the pics are pretty jenky (as picker Mike Wolfe would say), but there is good news. check the date for: normal, 9 over 6, and 9 over 8, also look for D mint mark. FINE values are $28 to $85, VF spread is $40 to $220. higher values are for D mint. that there is one of them there BOOM BABY finds. I also do the low and slow with the ace250 and another trick in deep iron areas is to cut SENS. so the coil doesn't see the deep targets but it still sniffs the good stuff. just remember to return to your regular setting after you fly thru the flak. still looking for a Half anything in copper or silver

Super coin! It's in awesome shape, ya don't see too many half dimes pop up, great job

Yep, slowing down has quite a few benefits. But, the speed of the swing isn't quite the problem, (usually). The AT has one of the quickest recovery rates I've seen. What tends to happen with a fast swing is that each swing tends to pull up at the ends and one tends to start doing the "Zorro" style of swinging. The "Z" swing starts widening out causing missed ground.

Slowing down does indeed help. You hear more and get a better chance at reviewing what the detector is trying to tell you.

Excellent save! WTG!

Congrats!! What a great find!! I would love to find a seated coin!! -Finman-

Most say do not clean your coins, It only hurts the value. But if you do want to clean it you can try light electrolysis and baking soda polish. Great find.

Great looking coin, Congrats!

Great coin, work that site slow and from all directions.

I don't think the Denver mint was kicking at that time. Maybe new Orleans?

Beautiful coin, yes slowing down is the key. But I like the others to go fast and clear out the trash and clad for me

Great example of what slowing down can bring. She is a looker!

We really need a "love it" click. Great coin!

Thanks for all the nice remarks and useful info folks. I'm hoping winter holds off for a few more weeks. Best of luck to you all :)
