Detected not to far from the Minie ball I found last month up on the ridge .
Dated 1853 ( minted in Philadelphia)
Was about 4 inches down in sandy soil on the banks of the creek I've been hunting for past 3 months
Came out of the ground like this ( i just blew off the sand )

All I can say is "WOW"!

In 1853 the mint lowered the amount of silver in dimes quarters and halves. They put arrows by the date to note the change. By lowering the silver content while still calling it a dime, the Gov cut a fat hog. In 1852 they minted 1.5 mil dimes. In 1853 they minted 12.1 mil.
