2nd time within 2 weeks I got another Garda box short of coins. This one was 29 coins short out of 19 rolls I opened and I was sure at least 3 more rolls were short but I didn't open them. I took the box back to the bank and spoke with the manager again. Last time he said sorry, but we don't roll those and we only buy them from Garda. Not much we can do. This time I said this is unacceptable, last time I lost $13.00 on that box and this box so far is going to cost me at least $14.50 I know of, more if I was to open the rest of the rolls. I said look at these rolls that are rolled and are small/short. I said what can you do? He said well now we have a pattern and some evidence and we can do something. How about I take this short box back and give you your $500.00 back and we order another box and when it comes in you & I will open it and see how it looks. Sounds good to me and within 2 minutes had my cash and will get a call next Thursday when the next box comes in. I found no silver in what I checked so will give it a try next week. I also have 2 boxes coming in next week from a Brinks serviced bank and will see what I can find from them. Anyone else finding short boxes?

Take the losses or quit... some eat steak, others's eat scraps.

I don't think there is much you or the bank can do; afterall, it is GARDA who is shorting you. Perhaps send a letter or email to GARDA, or give them a phone call?

so far I've never had a problem with my String half boxes being short (& I've never searched a Brinks half box) but last month I had a Brinks dime box that was 2 rolls short and earlier this month I got a Brinks dime box that had one roll extra.

It would be one thing if it was a bag off the coin counter that was off as coin counters are rarely perfect (i.e., I wouldn't complain about a bag), but an ordered box should be correct as that is the service that Garda provides and accuracy is important. You are correct that Garda is the one shorting you, but it is the bank's responsibility to take up the argument with Garda as the bank is the one that has some leverage with Garda. The bank can decide the service is failing and switch armored services, something I am sure that Garda wouldn't want whereas as a customer you have no pull with Garda. That being said, in the cases I have seen posted on this board in the past when this happens, typically the bank covers their customer's losses and then recoups those losses from Garda such that the bank does not lose and you do not lose. Even Garda probably ends up with a wash (depending on what the bank negotiates...which I have never been privy to).

If a box was 1 coin off, I wouldn't bother, but $13 or $14, I would complain to the bank too.

I've had same problem with Loomis...

The first box was just 3 coins short. The next week I got 3 boxes from them. The first was 1 coin heavy the next 2 were 7.50 and 13.50 short. I replaced the difference and dumped them back. I never got anything from them any way so I just stopped ordering from them.
The following week I had 1k bags from a different bank come up with 12 SBA's and prez dollar coins as well as quarters, dimes and nickels in the bag so I mostly made up the difference. I have only been short on 1 bag. It had 2 cents instead of 2 halves, totaling the correct number of coins but the wrong amount.

These bags I get are not from bank coin counters but ordered through a branch, they still come in heavy canvas bags. I got like 30 or so of them that I use for other things so if I come up a little short I don't feel the loss as much.

I can see it now. You and manager open the box next week and it is loaded with WLH and Benjamin enders. That manager looks at them, looks at you, looks at the enders, and announces: "Yup. These rolls are short coins. I need to keep this box! We'll order you another one, come back next week." Then, he says: "As a service to you, I'll search er, I mean count all the coins in all of your future boxes."

I'd do what buffalo boy said , move on and keep on hunting. You win some and lose some, your bank is actually doing you a favor by ordering boxes for you , at No Cost!!
Good luck!!!

Wow, that is quite a shortage. I search Garda boxes and usually they are spot on, but the last month or so, I have had 3 boxes or so that were 1-2 coins short.

I understand that they are doing me a favor, at no charge, and I thank them every time I pick the boxes up. They do have my home mortgage, my Visa card account and my checking account, and I'm sure don't want me to leave. But being almost $30 dollars short, out of two boxes is a BIG issue not only to me but to the bank as far as I'm concerned. Yes a couple of coins short isn't any big deal and I make them up and keep on going. But approx 60 coins is a completely different matter. Someone needs to be aware and investigate why. The bank is paying for a service they are not getting, accuracy.

That really sucks. I haven't been shorted but last week I had a box with three rolls that were heavy by one coin. The rolls were noticeably taller then the rest.

I'm sure if you box were load with WLs, Bens, and Ag Kens instead, I'm sure you won't be throwing a fit .....
So , stop pouting and keep on Hunting!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

A couple of years ago, I ordered exclusively from Loomis. They were always short, but they were always consistent for silver. I considered the shortage a fee. A fee that I was fine with paying. When the silver dried up from the source, they became my dump.
