Another 1800's Schoolhouse Mystery Item

This neat little 1800's pin/clasp/clip/? wasn't very interesting looking until i cleaned it up and found the tiny silhouette of what looks like a soldier's head? Thanks to all on the forum who always come up with some great ideas and usually give me positive identifications on all my mystery items,
