Hello all,

New vendor on the forum, I would like to share with you some before and after pictures gathered from my Facebook group "Restoring Your Finds - Metal Detecting"

All those have been cleaned using Andre's pencils. You may notice that at some point, my own son who was 6yo at the time is using the pencils. They are incredibly easy to use! They come as a set of 4 pencils: 2 hard point pencils that can be sharpened using a regular pencil sharpener, a brass scalpel for hard crusts, and a steel wool brush pencil for the finish.

But pictures speak louder than words...

How is this different from 000 steel wool?

Well the main difference is that it's way more versatile. Whenever you come across a hard concrete like crust, the hard point pencils do a great job. The brush pencil can be used either on coppers, gently, to get rid of any dirt that remains or as a finisher. With just 000 steel wool, you're going to spend hours. With the pencils, you'll save a lot of time. Also, I have used toothpicks in the past, they're just not as handy and the pencils can be sharpened just as a regular pencil, using a pencil sharpener. They last quite a bit of time. The toothpicks... Well, I used a thousand toothpicks, they would break, they can't be sharpened and they're not very handy. The 000 steel wool will just help if you have a thin layer of dirt. The pencils get the job done with a concrete like crust.
Here is one of my result on a roman coin that had a concrete like dirt crust, an over 1700 years old one.
A coin that was worn to start with (the one on the left) but details are still here.

Have any Forum members used these "Andre's Pencils" ? I've tried toothpicks on occasion, not much success really. If anyone has used these, any thoughts on them for me after having tried these out?

i have and really like them. i posted my before and after pics and people kept saying peroxide or what ever method they use would do just as good or better. me personally think they work great and the relic dosnt have to get wet.

I bought a set and really like them. I brought an old V nickel back to life.

Amazing before and after! :icon_thumleft:

I started using these and they're great!

Thanks for sharing. Awesome clean up.

Will these pencil's work or help a corroded copper large cent that was previously submerged in peroxide?
Peroxide did help a little but was hoping for better results.

Thanks
Frank
