And the beep goes on, more Gold & Diamonds
Once again the weekend started out slow. A group of four of us decided to drive up to Daytona Beach Saturday morning. After the 2-hour drive we arrived 7AM, low tide was around 9am. Once on the beach you though it was a metal detector convention. Between Sun Splash Park and the Plaza Hotel I saw 19 detectorist. I mostly worked near the water till I got down north of the boardwalk. Then I got in the water working the deep holes. The only good target was a large men’s Stainless ring. For all my work that day I had that ring and maybe 80 cents. Frank Hansen of our group got 1 junk ring a 1 14K white Gold band. Jim Stewart got a 100 ct heart shaped costume jewelry ring. I wish he would post it, it was kind of cool. Skip got high coin count with at least $2 in change.
Two things kind of bothered me this trip. One was some guy using a Whites Surfmaster and a sand scoop near the waters edge. He was throwing junk back down if it was not a keeper. And he always had to be in front of you. If you passed him while he was digging a target, he had to hurry up and get around you again. And once he did, he kept looking over his shoulder to see how close you were getting. Hey guy, the beach is 10 miles long, get a life.
The other was an ATV vender on the beach, came out yelling at me because I was digging pennies with in 100ft of his setup. Another guy that needs a new life.
Anyway after all that I decided the next day (Sunday)to hit Cocoa beach. I arrived at the near the pier just before low tide. Once again you though it was another convention. 3 of us in the water with Excalibur's, 7 guys working the sugar sand/mud. I found a whole $1.55 for the day and NO rings. I hope those guys did better than me.
So that night I hit a local beach near town. Got down the beach about 8pm. With in 15 minutes, bang I got the small 14K ring. It has an opal and 6 diamonds. About an hour later I got another sweet sound. After about 4 scoops in the raging surf out pop this nice ladies 14K white gold rind. It has 22 diamonds. It supposed to be 23 but 1 is missing. I guess instead of wasting lots of gas, I will just hit my beaches harder and stay close to home. Happy Hunting all and Keep-On-Beep'n
