the actual 18k gold probably did not turn green - they probbaly used 10k to solder those diamond mounts in and that is what initially turned green
and once it starts to form it just grows from there

I agree, the 10 K is what probably went green on the ring, have found many encrusted greenies only to turn out to be the real deal... recently had one myself... that was green till I put it in a bath...
