Hello,

Recently i inherited a ancre mechanical watch from my grandpa but i don't know annything about it. The only thing that i know is that he fought with the French. I hope that someone here can help me identify it and tell me what it is worth. Down at the bottom of the watch are the words: 17 jewels incabloc. See the attachments for pictures.

Greetings,
Steven.

Julius Assmann founded the German Ancre Watch Company in 1852 or 1855 (conflicting Dates from sources) in Glashütte, Germany. They made fine watches, pocket watches and I believe clocks as well and won many awards for their excellent products! From the information, I believe he was a member of or cooperated with the many famed Glashütte Watch Makers such as Ferdinand Adolf Lange and others who revolutionized the Pocket Watch making industry. As far as the wristwatch you inherited is concerned, it might take some detailed research to pin down the exact model and value but with patience, I am sure the information can be found. I have the NAWCC Book on Watches, Pocket Watches and Clocks but have misplaced it and don't know where it is. I am sure someone will know some information on the watch and will post a reply!

Your watch looks typical of those made in the 1960s to the early 1970s. Imo. You may find more info about it by looking at the movement.
