Well... I waited for someone to chime in ... hate hogging what is its...

First I will say... this is a VERY interesting piece.

Second...

I know nothing about it. :)

BUT... I have a good feeling about this... if that means anything. :)

Thanks for the response. Although you seem to know about as much as I do about it, I’m glad we at least find it promising.

Very interesting piece! IMHO: It appears to attach through a wood/metal...etc. insert. I have looked at the cracks and appear to be stress cracks, perhaps through the removal process.

Interesting, I hadn’t considered that. My theory is it’s an ancient Etruscan terracotta votive. The hole on the bottom would be from the firing process. But I am certainly not an antiquities expert and my theory is based on nothing more than internet research. This is, of course, assuming it’s genuine and not a modern piece. In my far-from-an-expert opinion, it looks like it has some genuine age to it, though.

some background on where it was found, and other details about the find could help determine what it is and age. Such as was it buried, how deep, was it in a river or creek, and so on. It's all in the details provided.....

Unfortunately, I purchased it from a small auction house near me. They knew nothing about it but said they got it from an antique dealer who also knew nothing about it. Luckily, the auction house is fairly unknown and the other people who bid are typically interested in tools and household goods. So I’m usually the guy who ends up with unusual items at a cheap price.

Agree 100% - appears to be some type of adornment for a post or fixed staff (NOT a staff anyone carried on a regular basis, but a ceremonial tool). Looks to be authentic, as opposed to a recent replica, but it doesn't fit the design of any of the usual mesoamerican suspects. The headress is similar to some later Incan types, but the facial structure favors more of the Amazonian figurines.
