We have these two old coins, one is square and we were told that it is most likely a Roman game token/coin, has only an impression on one side (fleur-de-lis with "M" and 2 dots).

The other coin is about 1/4" thick, the size of a dime, and fairly worn, but seems to have a maltese style cross on one side, and I'm not sure what the image is on the reverse side.

Any ideas? We're at a loss.

The square one is infact a coin weight :icon_thumleft:

Agreed, but might need to rule out a 'bullion weight', it has 2 dots that's remind me of them. If so, it might be a 2 pennyweight at about 3.11 grams (may have lost a bit over time)

I'd guess neither is a coin.
I agree with SS; you might find it here: http://finds.org.uk/database/search/results/objecttype/coin+weight/broadperiod/POST+MEDIEVAL/page/10
Don........

I think the fat round one maybe an early coin, maybe Israel or India jump to mind - but I'm rubbish with foriegn coins

Curious how these came to be in your possession...

If found or inherited, might provide a clue for identification.

I think we know what it isn't, so lets explore other avenues.

A game peice comes to mind, and possibly the round object is a wax seal stamp...maybe remote :coffee2:

I came into possession of it through an estate sale, blindly, just listed in a box as "old coins". I was originally told by an antique dealer that the square one was a Roman Game Token, because he said that he had some that were similar to that, but it seems that it is a coin weight from what others have told me. The round one, well, I have no idea, but it looks like an ancient coin to me. Just trying to get some ideas, really.

Its not a Roman Gaming Piece & its not an idea but IS a Coin/Bullion Weight. If you weight it, you will get a more concise answer.

The other one, needs more research, not my area.
