Ancient button..?

Hello Tnet found this weird thing on a field where I've found a lot of old stuff (medieval buckle, coin from 1711)

This item looks like brass and got no idea what it could be..
Any body knows how old and what it is ??

If the little pieces on the back were going in the other direction, I would almost think that it was a ring.
