Ancient Bronze Coin Made to Look Like Gold

Photo is of a real ancient bronze Byzantine coin approx. 1500 years old.

I was surprised to discover the great detail under all the surface corrosion.

After I coated this coin with EverBright it looked awesome (much better that the picture here shows). It will now stay bright and shiny for decades.

Cleaning these old pieces is great fun.

I sure wish you could see how awesome this coin looks to the eye! Trust me, the pictures here are crap compared to the real coin. It could pass for gold, it's that great looking now.

That's a good lookin' coin Badger! Gold doesn't corrode, so I would think that they would not need much cleaning, if any, making the "uncleaned gold coin" story a bit of a reach. Nice job.

I have a few Byzantine coins, they are bronze. Date from 500-700 AD. I think it would be hard to miss a gold coin? I wonder if they debased the gold back then. Could be brass. Nice old coin and HH, Mike

I agree Mike. I knew this myself but my thread was meant to convey another message.

Like usual, I missed the mark
