We found a old anchor in the woods behind my house and I am looking to see what it's worth or any information. A friend asked to buy it but I am not sure what it's worth. I am guessing its iron. Its a little over 4ft tall. I can not find any markets at all on it to give me a name or a year. It is rusted but just for the iron or metal alone I guess its worth something. Also attacked is a huge thick rope. Any information at all please. Some reason the pictures are not showing. Here the links:

PS> We are not even close to a ocean, just 1 lake. So not sure if this was for a small boat (seems to big) or just a prop for someone's yard

Any Pictures of It ??? HH Chug

I don't think that's a lake anchor unless the lake is huge. Design looks fairly modern to me. Way cool.

It is an anchor but being found in the woods so far from the ocean, it was probably used with a stump puller. Tony

Thanks guy! Any idea what a far deal on this would be if I sold it? not looking to make get rich but also dont want to sell it for less than its worth. Also any idea on a place to find a year or name? I looked all over. I guess it would be raised a little. We do have lakes but nothing to do a anchor of this size. we also found a smaller one

No idea on age , jim is right looks like a danforth. You can buy a new danforth 70 lb. for just under 300$
If its 40" tall and about 40 lbs. it would be for a 45' boat.
50"- 75lbs- 55' boat.

The anchor you have is called a plow anchor. It is designed to dig in the bottom like a plow and not let go or drag the bottom. The piece at the center on the bottom is to keep the anchor from rolling in heavy tides or currents. People where I live will pay as much as 500 dollars for anchors like that for decoration! Ill bet it weighs more than 50 lbs.

Yes the anchor is not that old.I'd be surprised if it was much older then 30yrs.A very common style used mostly that I know of on commercial fishing trawlers.Just say I've been on more than I can count on my fingers & toes. :laughing7: Here on the coast they are used in yards for decoration. And even though I've sold ones just like that one, here that type don't bring much money.People here rather have the older types that are found dragging off shore. But for a person inland it might have some value. :dontknow: I'm not sure where you are but could have made it's way there just that way.Or could be from someone who owned a vessel & wanted to keep as a remineder. :dontknow: Would of sat (rested) in a anchor shoot on the bow. Some trawlers have bow winches for recovery & others I've worked on use the main winch & pulleys to hoist up.
Take Care,
Pete, :hello:
