I was detecting the woodchip playground area of this park that I have hit several times before. I generally find a lot of clad coins. I wasn’t hitting too much of anything so I decided to head out to the grassy park area for a bit. Since I’ve been lurking and reading in this forum, I’ve learned that to get the good stuff (as far as gold is concerned), you have to dig the trash. I forced myself to get after it by promising to dig 25 trash/pulltab signals. Well, I got lucky and on signal #7 I dug some gold (probably only gold plated) in the form of an anchor crucifix. It sure got my blood flowing! Thanks for looking.

That's really an interesting piece. I wondered about the history, so I did a search and found that it's called a Mariner's Cross:

"Faith, hope, and charity combine to form the Mariner's Cross.

The anchor is a symbol of hope and security to many seafaring societies, and the addition of the crucifix introduces a spiritual element to the pendant. "

I just wanted to thank everyone for their comments and the information. I really appreciate the information! I looked all over the back of this thing but couldn't find a K mark anywhere. Of course that doesn't mean that it wasn't there, it could have been worn off, etc. I reckon I'll get someone to look at it someday. In the meantime, I plan on going out again tomorrow to find something that tops this. Good luck and happy digs to everybody.

Very nice lookin' piece....HHoliday's

Could be the photo but that gold looks more like 18 or 24. I bought my wife some 24kt gold earrings and that's the color they are. There's a Vietnamese jeweler in Charlotte that makes pure gold jewelry and that has the look.
That'd be tre cool!!
