Dug this up on a site with eagle buttons and bullets. Need to i d it. It’s stamped brass w/ heavy silver wash. It’s made like other buckles of the period. The design is an anchor over a cross w/ a possible bust of an eagle head or heart in the center. I would love to know anything about this artifact. It measures 1 1/2” x 2”. Nice buckle. The cross/anchor/heart combination has long-standing Christian symbolism for faith/hope/charity and was particularly popular in Victorian times as a motif for brooches, buckles and such. It also has symbolism for the Irish Protestant 'Orange Order' but with a specific arrangement of the design as shown below, so it's not a fraternal item:

Welcome to Tnet.

Being pressed copper & plated, I think it's manufacture & design suggests late 19th C to early 20th C.

Yes, good description. A L S O, the" Orange Order " is where the University of Tennessee got it's colors, orange. Orange Men. just a little history for some of you. Most UT Fans have NO idea.Too focused on the Bluetick hound, Smokey. Which was a breed from France, Gascon area, by the monks of course.

Nice find and Welcome to TNet! :hello:
