Found this ring in an old downtown tearout today. Stuff found in this lot date back at least 1875.
The ring is a rose colored gold and is marked with a 14 in a square and a crown next to the 14.
What is unusual is the brass or copper band that runs the center of the ring. It appears to have been set in the gold in a groove.
I thought it was plated at first but after some cleaning, it appears to be a band of metal around the gold ring. Has anyone seen this before?
Is anyone familiar with the crown hallmark?

Thanks everyone! 20191103_210112.jpg20191103_210053.jpg20191103_210011.jpg

Nice Find!

Its a fake gold ring. Copper base with gold plating. The gold has worn off along the highest wear points and the copper has since corroded. I have dug many rings that looked like that. If you scrape the edge or the inside, youll see fresh copper.
