A few weeks ago, my brother and I gained permission on a farm near Culpeper, VA. It was mostly pasture land, and we pretty much struck out in the pastures. The owner said that he thought there was an old home back in the woods behind their property, as he remembered there being some piles of stone. We walked back and sure enough, found what was left of an old home and outbuildings. We spent most of the first day digging out the big iron, as this place had never been detected before. Along with axeheads, stove parts, and farm tool iron, we got a brass cow bell and a pendulum from an old kitchen wall clock.

The second day was spent moving stones from the summer kitchen and grabbing hundreds of pieces of bottle and jar glass, porcelain, and pottery. It became clear that the kitchen was fairly well stocked when the house was abandoned.

Anyway, it was take several more trips to get down to small bits of coins and treasure, and I am looking forward to getting back down there.

Wow, what a fantastic hunt and some super cool artifacts.

Very nice-

looks like a great place to hunt. Nice finds already

Cool spot! FYI the bottle frags and tops you show date to 1890-1910.

Looks like a great place to hunt! Places like that will give for a long time to come. "Nice"

Thanks guys. And yeah, it will take several trips to clean this place out. Looking forward to it!

Nice digs, hopefully you carry a 5 gal, bucket with you. I bet that finds pouch got heavy during that hunt.

WE NEED MORE COW BELL AS CHRISTOPHER WALKEN SAID , REALLY NICE BUNCH OF FINDS .

Any untouched site is a true blessing! It shows from your finds thus far!

But, do you have permission there too? They said it was "behind their property"?
Just curious. Wouldn't want you to get a load of rocksalt, if you know what I mean.

What I meant was behind the house. The house sits up on hill, and the entire front acreage is open pasture. Directly behind the house is all wooded and sloped.

Sounds like you're covered. Just trying to keep you from getting that load. LOL

Kudos, Kiros32!
