Found this ornate brass pin/tack in a cornfield. Any ideas to what it might have been applied to? What about how old it might be? Lot's of cross period contamination in the field. From colonial to modern.

I am with SkaBa. It is a hammer on decoration for furniture.

I wish that I could say... Confederate hat pin, but alas..

Looks pewter to me; if it is, then it's probably older-likely 18th century.

You are probably right. Am not good with identifying metal when corroded. It is heavy for it's size.

That's certainly pewter, almost resembles a tutor rose motif. My gut is late 18th century saddle boss or cloak button

Thanks! you are correct it resemble a Tudor rose but this one has 6 pointy tips, the Tudor has only 5. The center is clearly a flower, the rest am not so sure. It is most likely pewter. Was not sure when I posted but it is heavy for it's size.
