Old Steel Knife

Wondering if anyone knows the age of this knife. I found it on private property with the owners consent. It was so corroded with dirt, that I didn't even know it was a knife for hours!

Knife DLC 00.webp This was taken after hours of cleaning, I couldn't get that stuff off! A few more hours did the trick! Knife DLC 01.webp

Could be anyone's guess on the age of your knife. Perhaps, go back and hunt for more relics that can aid in determining when the area was in use. Good luck.

Looks like some version of a Barlow knife.

Scales. They don't hold up to being buried.

Here is a dumb question... what is a scale?

Scales are the nice looking part of the handle. Most old pocket knives had wood or bone scales. After being in the ground for a long time the scales rot away and leave just the metal behind. You Definitely found an old pocket knife.
