OK,- dug this up a few yrs back on a very early farm/old tavern/mustering grounds pre-1810///here in good ol Upstate NY...

I think it is made of copper due to some patinaing which the pics really dont show,copper dug from this plance also shows very miminal copper corrosion,and has a great PH lvl "acidity"for those buired coins.
now its about a 1/4 "give or take a small bit,wide.
and about 4 CMeters thick,
I see afew numbers,i wont say what i see though...
Also i see what looks to be a tree ot pine pree on one of the sides

yes i did make the mistake of cleaning it with a recipe i know for post 1880s coins,...

OK I WANNA KNOW WHAT I FOUND HERE<ITS BOGGLING MY MIND!!!! ;D :o ::) ???
sorry for the crappy pics but ill do a bit of photo editing on the pics to see more detail...pic added....outlined a tree and other things????

0.25" wide by 1.57" thick" Huh? You got those reversed? Being 1/4" thick would put it into ancient coin category or not coin at all.

http://www.coins.nd.edu/ColCoin/

When you have an hour to kill, page through this database (with images). All kinds of coinage floated around in the colonies. I was checking some or the St. Patrick coppers (in honor of tomorrow) from Ireland that were purchased for use in the colonies but no similar markings. But there are scores of other possibilities.

thx for the link,also the coin again in CentiMilz is "clostest i can describe without taking it from its holding place...

wide "flat side down" - about 1CM
Thickness - little than a half a centiMl....

i gotta weight it though,....
also does anyone see a "17" on one side?

strange find indeed,...

Rich, looks more like a "dragon". The head to the left as you have marked it out looking to the right, in fact, the top of the tree looks like the right wing to me and if you look to the left you can faintly see the left wing. The "2" also looks more like an animal maybe a horse, maybe a sea horse?? Maybe just my imagination!! don't see the 17.
