An old find, cast metal. Found about one foot deep.

Found this years ago but still have no idea what it is. It was at an old swimming hole that has a fresh water spring, buried in the ground about 5' away from the waters edge, about a foot deep and it had a good sized rock just above it in the hole. The area was also known historically to have been an encampment for soldiers on their way north to Brooksville. Although i don't believe it to be that old, looks cast to me.

It might be parts of an old cap gun.The piece with the single hole looks like a trigger.I don't think it is a single part but two separate pieces.

So likely to be 'modern trash', post-1900 - pre-1950... I'm thinking tractor part.

Pretty heavy for cap gun parts, I've owned a few cap guns when i was a child, i'm 50 now. i believe they were one at one point, seem to fit together fairly well. I thought gun part, like a trigger guard but i don't see any way for a trigger to be mounted through or past these parts.

These pieces have dumbfounded me for years now, and will likely keep doing for a more, lol.

They have been in an old cigar box, that i keep all my finds that i have saved over the years. My junk box...

Yes, no rust or even visible corrosion, the way they look in the picture is the way i found them in the ground. I mean you can tell they have corrosion but i didn't see any visible signs besides the loss of metal on the pieces, nothing in the hole that i noticed either. There was some heavy foil folded up in the hole with these but i didn't save that. Might have helped to identify the pieces somehow. It was in good shape and pretty thick, folded a few times and was about 4"x4", probably 16"x4" when unfolded and perforated i believe, it was a long time ago.

As we well know Terry, detecting modern sites often produces finds that 'look familiar'.
When I initially looked at your find I thought, "I should know what this is... because it looks so familiar".
I have several small boxes of finds like yours and I've resigned myself to the fact that I'll likely never know what everything is.

But thankfully Tnet provides a forum like this where we can all play when the ground is frozen.
