Greetings:
This is my first visit here so let me introduce myself.
I live in Tallahassee and retired at age 50 five years ago. I've been metal detecting on land for 20+ years and use a Spectrum XLT. But now I am interested in diving waters along the Florida coast using a hookah unit. Even tho I'm an experienced scuba diver I'm changing to the hookah and plan on diving waters 30 feet or less.
I have an 18 ft CC boat but thinking that I'll buy a small trailerable house boat like www.adventurecraft.com where I can spend more time on the water but be able to shower, make coffee and save on motel costs as well as get out of the rain showers that pop up.
I plan on buying an underwater detector like an explorer and converting my XLT to a sweeper unit.
I've been reading about the state of Florida taking away collectors rights but I'm not clear on what we can or can't do in coastal waters. Being in Tallahassee I'll track down the right people and have a chat with them. If need be I'll start some type of sheltered corporation. I'm not an attorney but a business or non profit organization can slip through loopholes in any legislation.
Years ago my friend Dan and I found a few gold coins off Sabastian, north of the inlet but we didn't have metal detectors at the time. He moved to Belize a few years ago, started a dive charter biz, messed up and was sent to prison. Nothing to do with diving. Before then he sent me some, er, (very) interesting photo's of what he found there. He's due to be released this December.
I'm not going to be doing this in the hopes of financial reward. But rather as an adventure. To live life fully as I always have. I'd rather be shark bait than sit here and waste life.
If anyone is interested in diving/detecting the shallows with me or would like me to dive with them please let me know. I'm also interested in the key's area and the Bahama's.
30 years ago a multi millionaire walked into a dive shop in Titusville Florida and asked the owner if he knew of someone he could dive with that he could trust with his life. A person who was not interested in his wealth. A person he could trust at sea and around his family. That's how I met Dan. And that tells ya about all you need to know about me.
Thanks for letting me join the forum.
