Stopped by my pickup bank to withdraw some cash so I could pay my bills. I look in her tray and spy a nice silver rim in the dime row. I ask her if I can have it and she takes it out, Looks at the date, Stares for a minute and says OHHH 1951. This is silver!! At this moment I am thinking well dang, I'm not EVER getting this dime for a dime. She says "I have abunch of these and some of the bigger coins with the standing lady on the front of them!!!" Curiousity got the better of me and I asked her if she has anything else? She says yes I have like 5 old gold american coins about the size of a dime!! So we sat there and talked for about 15 minutes and she has agreed to let me look through her coins. She is gonna bring them to work tomorrow and I'll get to look through them and make an offer. She asked if I just buy for silver and I said, No I buy to save american history. That statement saved me because after saying that she said she didn't want anyone melting these coins. I turned to walk away and she screamed at me and said, Give me a dime so I can give you this one!! 1 1951 silver rosie and a coin prospect later, I'm a happy camper. I will let y'all know how it goes tomorrow. :icon_thumright:

*** Update ***
I went by the bank today and the teller said she remembered the coins were in her safety deposit box. I gave her my name and number and she is gonna call when she gets them. I will let y'all know when that is. Thanks

That is some good Karma IP, see it comes back around. By the way, how are you feeling? Probably a little better after today.

Re: An Interesting Story

So many people on here act like this is such an impossible scenario... You just proved how "un" impossible it is... I have had several very similair experiences. (well I havent ever scored gold, or even close) but I have had many times when educated "silver culling" tellers sell it to me at F.V. or save pre 1964 coinage just to give to me when they see me next, or whatever, just cause it makes them feel good.... I give you props for making this relationship, hopefully it pays off... I talk to as many tellers and bankers as I possibly can with the intent on building a relationship like this-though rare, (as rare as a W.L. in a box or more) it does happen... good luck.

Chris.

Re: An Interesting Story

Telling tellers about silver can be the best thing in the hobby. Sure, you might miss a few coins (one teller I know grabs all the Franklins she can find) but you gain others (that same teller will call me if she gets in 40%ers or 90% Kennedies).
