I found this yesterday along the Indian River near Melbourne FL. It seems to be made out of bronze. It looks like a soldier fighting with a wild boar? There are also 3 dogs, one of which is on the boar's back. Behind the soldier is a horse reared up on two legs with a rider on it's back.
I didn't find any more pieces to this but might go hunt the sight again tomorrow for a while to see if I can find any more of it.
Does anyone have any ideas about this piece? Too bad it is broken. It would sure be nice to see what the whole thing looked like before it broke.. Just wondering what is is, where it might have come from, how old, ect. Highwater

Maybe not a soldier but a squire or a knight. A quick search on the net showed a number of pieces of art depicting "The boar hunt". I suspect yours is a Victorian revival piece... of something. I don't know what. :icon_scratch:

Thank you for the replies so far.
The reason I thought maybe 'soldier' is that the guy poking at the wild boar is wearing a helmet.
I am headed out the door to the site I found this piece. I will update later this evening and will make a blow up copy of the 'soldier'.
Yes, defiantly part of a treasure chest, I am sure.... Wouldn't that be the ticket!!!!
The site is the most littered with modern junk that I have ever hunted in my life. There is an old cement sidewalk and set of wide stairs that people must have been sitting on, twisting their bottle caps and dropping them everywhere. I found this piece in a debris field just below the stairs, which has been eroded by running water. I have no clue at this time what the site was used for in the past, but it is in the part of town where it all began. A long narrow piece of land that goes to the water. More to follow..... HH to all.. Highwater

Re: An Interesting Piece (Another View)

Sorry I haven't been able to update. I have been busy getting ready to make a move, which will happen on Monday. I will be offline for almost a week.
Here is a photo of the back side of this object. I did go back to the site and spent about an hour looking for more pieces, but couldn't find anything among all the trash. It is an interesting site, long and narrow with old concrete path and wide steps leading down to the Indian river. Both the stairs and path have suffered much water erosion. This site used to be a landing for boats that used to ferry people and goods up and down the river way back when. Too bad it is so trashed out. I did dig some very old metal and my friend Andy found a very old pocket knife. I am sure it would be a great place to dive around where the old pier was.
Chong, I tried to go on the cruise ship in Dec. After we left the house, running late, I found out I needed to have my ID with me. We turned around and got my drivers license and just made it to the boat on time. When I went to board the ship I was refused because my license had just expired. The other nine went on board, I waited it out but borrowed a car while I was waiting. Nobody won any money, most lost a bunch. I was feeling good in the end because I still had my wad of cash in my pocket. (HT, what a gas)
Thanks everyone for your ideas. This piece just shows enough to wet the apatite. Wish it would have been a bigger chunk, or better yet the whole thing. It is a cool looking piece and it feels pretty heavy. I think it may be bronze, but can't be sure. Not brass, copper or pewter. I think it is bronze. Highwater
After sitting here looking at the object and turning it over in my mind, I wonder if it couldn't have been the base to a clock or perhaps a lamp? OR, maybe a piggy bank.?

I like Charlie P's idea.

It also could be part of the facade from a Victorian era hunting cabinet.

I'm guessing it is part of a victorian mantle clock since it is made of bronze. The scale seems about right.

Very cool piece. Try to ID the helmet of the soldier might help. The dogs look like Hounds or maybe Curs. The dog on top has the Boar by the ear. That is how they catch them. The soldier may have a spear.(cannot tell) Cute little piggy tail... angry pig.
Boars originally came from Europe, brought to Florida by the early Spanish explorers. (Ponce DeLeon, DeSoto). The Spanish soldiers used Greyhounds I read somewhere.
