Greetings to all here!

I need help of your expert eyes. This item on the photo has been accidentally found during excavations, 6 feet under ground in Ferghana Valley, Uzbekistan. It looks like an ancient short sword, with some interesting patters on its blade. I know it's impossible to tell its age based on the depth it was found at, but I'm just dying to find out more about this artefact. I would be tempted to take it to the local relevant institutions for a deeper research on it, but this may be risky since the local legislation requires me to turn it in to the state.

I would be grateful for any advice (expert you could refer me to?), ideas, guesses, etc.

Thanks,
Bob. 20190808_221740.webp20190808_221757.webp20190808_221802.webp20190808_221808.webp20190808_221835.webp20190808_221855.webp20190808_222132.webp20190808_222153.webp

I am NOT a sword expert, but I think this is a knife for butchering livestock (AKA meat cleaver).

There were swords called cleaver swords. What ever it is it looks ancient!! Some measurements would help.

Welcome Bokhodir, nice find! If found in the states, I agree with vhs. A cane or corn knife and an old one too.
Best wishes!

I know that that countersunk holes are not necessarily an indicator of age. A quick Google search tells me that countersinking has been used for a very long time. But the holes in the handle appear countersunk and look machined. Just my two cents. I'm probably wrong.

there are considerable witness marks in between the blade and the handle, indicating it was used as a hammer?? or alot of mis strikes? either way it looks quite burred over.
