Yeah, I found Alf over the weekend. He's from 1986 and talks fine and looks good, paid $3. He's hugging an Awaji Pottery round cone shaped wall vase with an iris decoration on it. Probably pre 1890, it's unmarked, paid $5.

Other finds include a Dan Fenton signed vase a pat. 1923 Leatherette book bank Oaklyn National Bank Oaklyn New Jersey. Seems all I have to do is fill it with supposed old coins and it's worth $100 or more, lol. Not that I would do this like this guy did, notice how the price kept getting lower as he sold more of them- leatherette book bank in Banks, Registers & Vending | eBay

Also got 2 sterling salt spoon pins, $5 for the pair, some WW2 era Japanese paper money and one from China, same era, rough shape all of it, but it was only a dollar same as the bank.

The best find (of the year probably) was the WW1 sterling aviators wings made by Shreve & Co.. These are very rare and highly collectible. You can read about it here- http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/w...rts-rare-set-shreve-co-ww1-pilot-s-wings.html

and this Pulsar brand new in the box- Pulsar BLK WR Chrono Men Model PL8002 [ 300260 ] - Pure Gold and Silver Jewelry Repair Watch Battery Fort Lauderdale Broward Oakland Park

Way cool on the silver wings you got me beat there & with the 2 vases! You must have shopped at the same place I did or something tho.. Alf, Japanese WWII occupation currency & a Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. leather United States savings bonds and valuable document holder-storage/portfolio thingy from the mid 40's. Those items are strangely similar to yours!

Because I am known as "the man who has everything", I often get "joke" gifts galore. Back in the time of Alf's heyday I received an Alf doll from my wife one Christmas. We still have him on display down in the game room, although I have no idea if he still works, as the batteries ran out long ago. It was hilarious when he said, "Here, kitty, kitty, kitty."

Those Oriental Notes are cool. I have bought and sold a ton throughout the years. I kept the absolute prime examples. Even in low end condition, some of them can fetch a good price. They have to have specific serial numbers that identify what areas they came from. I had ONE ever that was "surcharge stamped" with Japanese letters that turned out to be quite valuable, so check them for any type of "offset" ink stamping.

Awesome hauls. I have always wanted a pair of WWII wings. Especially the higher end ones.

Alf was cool as heck back in the 80's. He's sellable too. The batteries in this one had just began to leak, luckily I purchased it just in time before they leaked onto anything else but themselves. Compartment still clean and talks up a storm.

Thanks, that's good to know about the notes. I'll do a little more research on them. These wings are actually WW1 not WW2.

Diggum, I think I would have a hard time selling those wings. That looks like a piece of history. I was just having a conversation with a friend of mine at a local vintage/antique shop and we were talking about "that big find" and if it was something that was really in our area of interest, could we sell it. I have bought fairly large coin collections and pieced them out ending up with several hundred dollar or just over $1000 coins for free, but that is the closest I have to knowing what I would do if that $50-$100K piece were found. I told her I think I would keep it at least for a while, but if it paid for Kella's college, it might have to go. Don't mean to hi-jack your thread...............wondering if that is a post worthy topic during the winter season............"what would you do if........" Just wanted to say great find on those wings, been drooling over them the last couple of days.

Although I wish I could keep everything I buy, to do so would put me in hoarder status, lol. I know they don't take up much space, I understand what you are saying and I am struggling with it. However, the reason I go picking is expressly for finding things to resell at a profit. I like them, I understand and appreciate the history behind them, but they should go to someone who could truly appreciate them and display them proudly as they should be. There are some things I think back on, that I wish I had held on to but as they say, easy come easy go...

This will make up for the not so good buys this past year that you all never see or hear about on here! Yes, there have been a few. :o

PS- I think the "What would you do if..." thread would be a good one.

Diggum, definitely not judging you on what you decide to do. I was just thinking they must be somewhat rare having come from that time era and the birth of flight. How many can there be? And then my mind kept flashing ahead to what would I do with them, what would I do with a near mint chained cent or flowing hair silver, etc. I think I thought of it, because just last yr, someone here in Maine found that 6 figure baseball card at a ys and got it in a lot of stuff he paid less than $150 for total. Ok, think I gotta go start that topic. LOL
