An acquaintance offered for me to detect on his farm, on an old wagon road...

He said that it has not been used in at least 100 years. It runs's on his land for a few hundred yards. Do you have any comments or ideas about detecting something like this? He also told me that there is a lot of steel on the land as a previous owner was a welder who worked on plant Bowen nearby.

I'm going out there next week. What should I expect?

Thanks,

Julien

Just kiddin!! ;) I do hope you find lots and lots of good stuff to show us!!!! :)

Nana ;)

If the steel/iron is as bad as it sounds i would turn it upjust past steel/iron so you can get all the copper, brass, and silver artifacts.

In your area.... dig 'em all!!!

If you are going to have unlimited use of the land, grid it off and dig every signal!

The shorter the time period of use, the higher the discrimination I would start with! I would treat it like a mad dash. Run it over first looking for Morgans, end it looking for minnie balls, then if time permits, dig the door knobs and square nails!

I will have unlimited access but it is a 15 acre farm and I will surely want to detect a lot of other places too...laff.
I am going to start with the road and around any trees, he said there are some really big ones, then play it by ear.

Thanks everyone, for the tips.

Julien

Go for it!
Expect to find gold, but settle for whatever you get. Sounds like a place I would like to go.
Keep us posted.
