Shipwrecks
hi all,
I have been unsuccessful in my search to find any record relating to an american shipwreck literally in my back yard. the ship was called ALIQUIS and it was wrecked here in Queensland-Australia in May 1839. the survivors were picked up by the ship ARGYLE and taken to India. would any treasurenetters know where in the States they keep records of american sailing ships lost outside America. any info would be greatly appreciated.
thanks HH

Try Atlantic Mutual Insurance Co Inc located in New Jersey USA. They may have insured her. You might also explore "Loyds List". This should be on micro film at any large public library.

This is not my information, but came from Jenny Fawcett
Australia [email protected]> you could give her an email.

from LOG OF LOGS (Ian Nicholson),

Aliquis, barque/ship of 675/695 tons, emigrants ship commanded by
P.gill/Gell. departed Cork on the 9th of December 1838, arrived Sydney 16th
march 1839 with Govt? migrants. Wrecked in Torres Strait late May 1839.
The Surgeon's Journal is available through the joint copying project, reel
