In 1861 a gold miner by the name of John Knott found a 11.5 kilo nugget, named the "Platypus" This was one of couple of large nuggets found in a small gully.Gully was named American Boot Gully which was later change to Kangaroo Flat . In these times it was common practise to change the name of of locations and that applied to hard rock gold mines too.many of the gold areas were mined several times between 1851 - 1935.

Over the past 2 weeks i haved worked up and down the sides of the gully and worked around a few mine tailing dumps and slowly found a piece here and pieces there. The area is quite junky but most of the junk was from the mining days. Not much modern rubbish. Heres my finds for the weeks

Great research and finds... Paid off for you. Congrats

Love the gold :icon_thumright:
That looks like a pretty old penny with the young Victoria head. Found one the same
yesterday but I can't read the date. What is the date on yours?
Great finds... John

Kangaroo ... platypus ... I'm guessing this is Australia, right?

Great gold! Hard to tell for sure, but some of the pieces in the first photo look like gold crystals with quartz matrix. If so, this could be worth MUCH more than just the gold value!!!

Individual gold crystals can sell for 3-4 times they gold price, and that was from 20 years ago. Collectors pieces!

Nice nugget digs , tinpan !! Relics are great too. Hope you find an 11 kilo chunk :icon_thumleft:

Sweet looking gold alright, good luck on the relic finds. Lots of targets to dig at that rate.

I think you did very well in your research tinpan! :icon_thumright: It's amazing how much gold the miners actually missed back in the "olden days" eh! It's certainly nothing like today where not a single flake of gold is missed! Congratulations on your finds and the best of luck in future hunts downunder mate. :hello:

as usual Tinpan nice bunch of color you got there Mate , nice bunch of old finds to . :icon_thumleft:

I was wondering where you had been, been a while, I figured you were still trying to lug the gold home without being seen.

More great nuggets due to hard work, youre a juggernaut!
