yes this is my "area" that I hunt locally heavily -- what type of items are you seeking -- shipwreck items ?--well right on "main" beach theres a 1810 to 1816 era british "lumber" trade vessel just off shore -- you can find bits of copper sheathing , brass hull nails and plate shards from the staffordshire crockery she had aboard as part of her cargo --- while there was little money onboard her most likely --- you never know if you'll be the lucky one to find a coin from her --- she lays just off shore of the "main beach" at atlantic and fletcher (the local amila island "salvors" have water rights" but the beaches except for the ones at the southern end of the island are public for the most part)-- theres a parking lot and a little park --- by the parking area is a walk over spot thru the dunes -- she is out "in front" of that area -- you will see ballast stones scattered about the beach -- look on a sea chart of the area and shes marked on it - beware while there is great stuff on the south end of amelia island and northern talbot island and nassau soundarea ***** the area is TOTALLY OFF LIMITS to metal detecting or taking items from the sea***** --its a "aquatic preserve zone" protected zone thus nothing can be "removed" or "disturbed" and they will get you if you try --thus my round and round fight wiith the state at this time over salvage rights to a 1715 fleet VIP rescue and royal treasure recovery bark type vessel I've found there (she was sent from havana to take the vip's and upper level king treasure away from the "danger" of the 1715 fleets wreck site to the south and onward to spain -- however she herself wrecked with all hands lost off amelia island in nassau sound * both records of the english and spanish record finding the wreckage but no survivors on the beaches of the nassau sound area in 1715 ) -- modern beach finds (coins --jewelry) are found on the mid level and upper level island beaches --we got loads of shark teeth --- by the way I am the club historian for HRANF --- Historic Recovery Association of North Florida --- our annual "club" treasure hunt was this past saturday there by the way --- Ivan
