Amber crystals on green/brown (jasper?)

Another one that grandpa labeled simply “Western OR” The crystals are a bright orange/amber. The rough side with spheroid and wavelite(?) patterns is a pea-green. Someone has gotten a saw into this, but the cut portion seems the least interesting (but what do I know!?) 🤪

That looks a lot like common opal. Hopefully someone with more knowledge can chime in.

I think grandpa may have occasionally mislabeled things. This type of rock, with amber colored common opal is found in dozens of
locations throughout central and eastern Oregon, plus southwest Idaho. I have never seen a sample from western Oregon, but others may have.

Time for more coffee.
