I decided to try my hand at garage sale hunting this morning, so I found a few last night, planned my route, and hit it at about 8 this morning. I asked each time if they had any coins, bottles, or militaria (my interests), and I had some luck.

The first lady I asked about coins, she told me to hold on a minute, and walked back to a cabinet in her garage. She pulled out a small box and I got excited. It ended up being mostly foreign coins, but she told me that she did have her father's US coin collection somewhere, but didn't know exactly where. I gave her my number and she said she would call when she found it.

At the last place I stopped, I asked again and again a gentleman told me to wait a minute, walked to his car, and came back with a small carton. It ended up being 33 Mercury Dimes from his dads collection. I offered him $20, which isn't steal I know, but for about 60 cents/coin, I figured it was still a good deal.

That is exactly how it happens. Everytime I ask for coins and then they remember they did have coins and run back in. Works with old gold too.
