Always check the parking lots

I am in the Air Force and we perform daily FOD walks. FOD are items left on runways or taxi ways that has the potential to damage an aircraft's engine. This daily act has got me tuned in to what is on the ground in front of me. It is amazing what people can walk over on their day to day travels.

I once knew a old man And he had a saying. He told me to always look on the ground and don't ever spend a dime without looking at it. He ment for silver. I too have found many different things.

Once in a parking garage I saw a wallet smack dab in the middle of the garage and I thought, "There's a lucky guy, because I'll find out his name and return it." Turns out it was MY wallet! I had dropped it a good three hours earlier. I don't know how many people would have walked or driven past it.

Did you give him a reward? :laughing7:

I always look down when I walk, mostly to avoid stepping on gross things. Haha, but I have found quite a bit of money - paper money, coins, and various other items.

LOL, you just reminded me that while walking my dogs and watching for those "gross things" I've found coins and bills.

Haha...the first post made me laugh out loud. I read it to my wife. She thinks the people on tnet are odd, but I like it here.

I am always treasure hunting. I live in a city and bike/walk almost everywhere. I usually find 2-3 wallets a year and always do my best to return them. I've found a decent amount of misc jewelry and cash too. Found a 27 year anniversary al-anon token the other day. Wish there was a way to find the owner.

Years ago, I was at Lollapalooza and in a pretty serious mosh pit. I took a second to look down and the pit was littered with random items. I wound up finding 6 watches (2 where nice), $30, and some random silver jewelry. It was a fun day.

Just remember to look up once in a while everyone, not worth trying to find some extra $ then getting hit by a bus lol... HH!

In the mid 1970's when I was about 13 years old, my folks took our family on vacation to Disney world in FL. We stopped for gas somewhere in SC at a convenience store. and on the way out in the parking lot my little sister who was about 6 years old bent over and picked up a rolled up $20 bill. Once in the car she started unrolling it, and there were ten of them there for a total of $200. I remember both my folks, watching the rear view mirror nervously for the next half hour down the highway..lol
In the 1980's I lived in Charlotte, NC and one day while at the bank I noticed a large 1 pound ziplock bag full of white powder tucked underneath one of the shrubs surrounding the parking lot. It took 10 minutes to get up my nerve and overcome my wife's objections to scurry over and snatch up the bag. I am not sure what was in the bag, but I know that it wasn't what I thought it was .lol

I guess I've been a treasure hunter since 1962 by chance. Yes, you never know what you will find by looking down. I was going on 13, kicking dirt on a ball field at school. I kicked up a 1756 Spanish Real. Gave it to my stepfather for his birthday. He carried it until his passing, and I passed it to my son who still carries it. I haven't been as lucky since, but I still look down. I find a whole lot of cents that way, but no jewelry (YET!). Did find a $5.00 bill once.

Besides, in the name of safety, we got to know what we might trip and fall over!

Keep the faith, and keep looking down!

Good tip on the parking lots, I'll remember that one. Let you know if I find anything good. Happy Hunting.

Almost forgot I had this little earring in my truck till I got to reading this post I put up. Well I went out and got it put it on the scale and it came to 0.4 grams 14k. about 9 bucks of gold. Take a look at this video of the urban gold prospector in New York. Like its said the treasure is where you find it.

With that experience you should be a shoe in for a walkway and parking lot prospector. You should give hunting stone artifacts a try. It's great fun and keeps my mind clear of clutter. I was an underground miner in the 70s and with that job you'd be looking up, down, left, right at light beam continually as you were in the transit mode. Plus you noticed the sounds of the ground you walked on. If it didn't sound as it should when you stepped on it you stopped to take a look at what you just stepped on.

My son found a $20 bill on the shelf of a local thrift store.
I purchase a cheap wallet a flea market for 2 bucks because it had a $10.00 in it once. Told one of the other vendors I know about it and she said she got a men's jacket at a thrift store to resale and it had a bunch of pockets and in one she found a $50.00. I'll bet your son was thrilled with that find.

He was quite happy. No resale necessary. Someone must of had it in their hand and not realize they dropped it.

It was probably my sons. Every time we go to the store were halfway home and he's like oh no I forgot my wallet on the store shelf. Sometimes I'll let him worry about it for a bit. But every time I pick it up and put in my pocket.
