Found this last night and don't have a clue as to what it might be for. Think it might be from the late Jurassic period...but I could be wrong. Solid cast aluminum with stamped numbers on back. Any ideas?

What kind of area did you find it in?Backyard/Park/Forest/ floating in space?A little idea of where found and what is in area could help with I.D. or it could make it even harder who knows.

Part of a vintage toilet paper holder? Is the 'divot' side the right size for that springy roller?

It's an odd piece for sure... :dontknow:

Are you sure its aluminum? Aluminum is not that old and was expensive. In the mid-1880s, aluminium metal was exceedingly difficult to produce, which made pure aluminum more valuable than gold. The hand stamped numbers look like early turn of the century.

Front yard of a 1940's era farm house about 4 1/2 to 5 inches down.

It's aluminum for sure on that part.

Since nobody is sure what this is, from out in left field I will toss in a wild guess, a weight for scales ? I am partial to the weather balloon theory, that was good :laughing7:
