I'm back to detecting after many years.... Found these today scattered along the shoreline, unsure if they are aluminum or maybe silver.

I'm pretty sure they are melted soda cans. I find them around beaches and campsites too.

They look like pieces of solder - have found many in my days..........though not positive unless I could actually hold them :dontknow:

I would imagine there would be a substantial weigh different between a melted aluminum can and a hunk of silver

prime samples of beach campfire melted "aluminum beer / soda can" blobs --ps silver by weight is much, much heavier than aluminum

I pretty much figured they were probably aluminum blobs. The total weight of all the pieces shown is approx. 3/10 of an ounce which does seem a little light. Thanks for your comments!!!

They look awful silvery, I'd take them to a pawn shop or jewelry store and have them acid tested.... Aluminum dramatically changes color in water... Some Solder contains silver so could be that too... I'd have them tested !!

Keep @ it and HH !!

I found a few similar blobs at a site I hunted last winter that were mixed in with finds dating from colonial to post-CW. Mine have some weight to them and I initially thought they might be silver, but that was probably wishful thinking. Not sure what they are, but don't believe they're aluminum due to their weight and the context in which they were found. The first pic below shows the other finds that were made where the blobs were found.

Bill yours might be pewter splashes *--pewter was a lead based alloy of metals commonly used in colonial times for many things

I find these all the time here in haida gwaii. I find chunks the size of my fist and it most definitely aluminum. I save it to see if the scrapyards will take it. But there are no yards on my island so im still waiting for my next trip off. But you never know they could be silver

Well call them "camp fire nuggets".
